Update: My truck got hit in a parking lot in Fresno and the camera footage saved me $1,400
Last Tuesday I walked out of a Home Depot in Fresno and found my rear bumper caved in, no note, nothing. I figured I was stuck paying my $500 deductible until I remembered the dash cam I threw in three months ago after a buddy kept bugging me about it. The footage caught the whole thing, the guy backing out of his spot and driving off, plate and all. Got his insurance to cover the full $1,400 repair with zero out of pocket, which honestly surprised me. So now I'm wondering what else I should have running, anyone got a setup they actually trust for parking lot stuff?
How long did it take you to pull the footage and get it to the other guy's insurance? Curious because I've heard some companies drag their feet on dash cam clips unless the plate is super clear and you can prove the time and date are right. Did the footage show him actually hitting you, or just him backing out and leaving the scene? That part matters if he tries to claim you were already dented. And did you have to send the raw file or did they accept a phone recording of your screen? Asking because I want to know what actually holds up when it counts.
