Enclosed vs open transport for a 2023 Mustang I shipped last spring

I was shipping my 2023 Mustang from Chicago to Phoenix last April and kept going back and forth on open vs enclosed transport. Finally went with enclosed because the thought of highway gravel chips on a brand new car made me cringe. Cost me about $1,450 for enclosed compared to quotes around $950 for open, so it was a big jump. But when the car showed up absolutely spotless after a 3 day trip I felt like the extra money was totally worth it. The driver even showed me pics of other cars on the same trailer that had zero damage too. Has anyone else paid for enclosed and regretted it, or am I just paranoid about rock chips?

Gravel chips on a brand new car, really? I mean, my daily driver is a 2012 F-150 with more door dings than I can count and I barely notice at this point. Unless you're planning on selling the Mustang as a museum piece in 20 years, that extra $500 for enclosed shipping feels like paying for white glove service on a pizza delivery. Plenty of people ship brand new Porsches and Ferraris open and they survive just fine. The drivers who do open transport know how to secure stuff without trashing it, otherwise they'd be out of business real quick.

Wait, wait... you're saying you've got a 2012 F-150 as a daily driver and you're comparing gravel chips on a brand new Mustang to door dings on a twelve year old truck? That's like comparing a papercut on a new tattoo to a scar you got in a bar fight back in college. The whole point of buying a fresh car is keeping it clean and tight, at least for a little while. Don't you want to enjoy that new car shine before the world starts beating it up?
