Gave up on enclosed carriers after one bad deal, now I see why folks pay extra
Last year I shipped my Civic from Dallas to Denver with an open carrier to save $180 and the guy showed up three days late with a cracked windshield. I swore off brokers entirely and figured enclosed was just a scam for rich people with Ferraris. Then my buddy shipped his project Mustang from Phoenix to Seattle in February and went enclosed because of the snow on I-80. He paid $1,450 and the truck had GPS tracking, a padded interior, and the driver sent him photos every stop. The car arrived spotless and three hours ahead of schedule, which never happens in this business. Now I'm planning to move my own classic from Austin to Portland next spring and I'm leaning toward enclosed despite the extra $400. Has anyone here actually had a bad enclosed shipping experience, or is the premium mostly worth it like I'm starting to believe?
