Seeing new tech fail reminds me why we learned the hard way

Back in the day, we traced every wire by hand. Now, if the scanner doesn't spit out a code, some guys are stuck.

Remember what happens when the scanners go down? Seems like we're forgetting the basics that used to keep things moving.

Watching a shop full of guys just stare at a dark scanner screen is like a bad comedy sketch. They'd probably try to reboot a carburetor if you let them. Meanwhile, the old guy in the corner is already checking for spark with a screwdriver and has the fuel line pinched off with vise grips. Guess we need an app now to tell us the engine is getting gas.

Scanners going down is a real headache, but it doesn't always mean a full stop. Plenty of us still crack open the service manual or pull out a multimeter. The problem isn't the tech failing, it's when that's the only tool someone knows how to use. You see it with the younger guys who never learned to trace a circuit without a diagram on a screen. The real skill is knowing three different ways to get the answer.
