TIL the hard way about static at a job in Phoenix
I was working on a Garmin G1000 panel in a hangar there last summer, and I didn't ground myself before pulling a card. Fried a $2,000 LRU because I was in a rush and the air was bone dry. Now I treat the wrist strap like it's part of my hand, no matter how simple the task seems. Anyone else have a static horror story that changed their routine?

Phoenix static is brutal, @wells.anna, like it's out for revenge.

Static killed a whole server rack once, so now I ground the floor mats too.

A whole server rack from static... that's a new level of bad luck, @david_park. I've seen it fry a motherboard or a power supply, sure, but taking out everything in the rack? That must have been a crazy expensive zap. Makes sense you'd go all out and ground the mats too after a hit like that. Can't leave anything to chance.
