Question about a Python script that crashed my computer last night

Welcome to the club, @wilson.sam is right. Your code just ran forever and choked the old girl.

TIL the hard way about static at a job in Phoenix

A whole server rack from static... that's a new level of bad luck, @david_park. I've seen it fry a motherboard or a power supply, sure, but taking out everything in the rack? That must have been a crazy expensive zap. Makes sense you'd go all out and ground the mats too after a hit like that. Can't leave anything to chance.

Question about my new heat pump water heater

Angela_grant is totally right about the old heater being a factor. My last one was a rusty tank from like 2002, and it sounded like a jet engine kicking on. The gas bill dropped noticeably the first month after I swapped it for a new one. You won't see that kind of change if your old one was already fairly new and efficient. It's all about what you're upgrading from.

My $80 cable toner saved a full day of tracing wires in an old building

Man, I read a forum post last week where a guy swore by a simple voltage tester for the same thing. He said in really old places, the toner can get confused by all the weird grounding and phantom voltage. His trick was to just disconnect a wire at the panel and ring it out with a multimeter. Sounds slow, but he said for a real rat's nest it was the only thing that worked.
