Warning: a 4 inch wire bundle can hide 3 separate faults and a multimeter won't always tell you
Last month I was chasing an intermittent pitot heat flag on a King Air 200 in Amarillo and found all 3 faults were in one 14 inch run of wire, a rubbed shield, a loose pin at the cannon plug, and a cracked solder joint inside the heat controller. I used to trust a simple continuity check and call it done, but that job proved you can pass a meter test at the rack and still have a bad wire in flight. The old guys at my shop always said wiggle the bundle while you meter it, and they were right. Anyone else got a trick for catching intermittent shorts besides just pulling and flexing every wire?
