I thought my neighbor's homemade weed killer was a joke until I tried it on my gravel driveway
Last month my neighbor Gary came over holding a spray bottle and said it was just vinegar, salt, and a little dish soap. I laughed because I had already dropped $45 on a big jug of Roundup at the Home Depot on 5th and figured his mix was a hippie myth. Well the weeds in my gravel driveway kept coming back after I sprayed the store stuff, so I finally mixed his recipe in an old bucket: one gallon of white vinegar, a cup of table salt, and a squirt of Dawn. I sprayed it at 9am on a Saturday when the sun was already cooking, and by Monday afternoon the dandelions and that nasty thistle were brown and curled up. What sold me was the cost, maybe $3 for the whole batch, and I still have most of the vinegar left. The catch is it kills everything it touches, so keep it away from your grass and flower beds unless you want a dead patch. Has anyone else tried this mix, and did yours work better with a stronger vinegar percentage?
