Unpopular opinion: I think tap-to-pay failing at the grocery store is a bigger deal than we make it.

My card got declined three times at the checkout last week because the chip reader was dirty, and I had to dig for cash, which made me realize how flimsy our backup plans are when the main system hiccups.

My buddy got stuck at a gas station because his phone died and his card's chip was cracked. He had to call his wife to drive out and pay for him, which turned a quick stop into a huge ordeal. It shows how these small tech failures can really snowball.

Honestly, calling that a bigger deal seems like a stretch. It's just a minor hassle for a few minutes. Most people still carry a physical card as a backup anyway. The whole system didn't crash, just one dirty reader. If you're relying solely on your phone to pay, maybe that's the real issue. Carrying a little cash or a card seems like a pretty easy fix.

Yeah @holly713, you're right. I keep a card in my wallet just for this.
