Had a client ask for a full skin fade with a hard part and a design last Friday

He brought in a picture from Instagram, but his hair was super thick and curly, not like the model's straight hair. I had to switch to a 0.5 guard open and work up way slower than usual to get it blended right. What's your go-to method for a clean fade on really dense, curly hair?

Do you ever use a detachable blade clipper for that first pass on the super thick stuff?

I tried that once with a Wahl Legend and it just bogged down in heavy coat. I have better luck going against the grain with a skip tooth blade on my main clippers first. It gets under the matted hair without pulling as much.

Detachable blades are a waste of time for that. Just use a good set of clippers with the right technique.
