Switched to a thinner blade guard on my clippers and it changed everything in 2 weeks

Been cutting for 7 years. Always used the standard guard that came with the Wahl clippers. Last month a regular asked me to try his Oster guards because his old barber used them. I figured one guard is like another. First cut I noticed way less snagging on thick hair and the blend was smoother. Two weeks in and I'm seeing less skin irritation on my clients too. Has anyone else noticed a difference between guard brands or am I just late to the party?

I was in the same boat, always figured a guard's a guard. Tried a thinner one on a whim and yeah, it made a noticeable difference in the blend.

12 years cutting here and I've gone back and forth between brands a bunch. Thinner guards feel cheaper to me, like they bend easier on the combover taper. Maybe your technique adjusted without you noticing, that's probably what changed.
