That old clipper oil trick I ignored for 10 years finally clicked

Been cutting for 14 years now, started at a shop in Dayton, Ohio. Always used the same spray stuff on my Andis clippers, but last month a guy in his 70s who's been at it since the 70s told me to just use a tiny drop of standard 3-in-1 oil on the blade hinge, not the whole blade. Tried it on a tough fade after I was burning a guy's neck at the shop, and it ran smooth as butter, no heat at all. Anyone else stick to old habits until a random client or old timer sets you straight?

And I swear, this exact thing happened to my buddy Mike who cuts over in Columbus. He's got this old Oster machine from like 1998 and he's always complaining about it overheating on thick hair. So last spring, he's at a barbershop convention and some retiree with a name tag from the 80s tells him to stop drowning the blades in that spray and just hit the hinge with a drop of sewing machine oil, not even the good stuff from the supply store. Mike laughed it off but tried it that night on a cowlick-heavy crop and he called me all excited, saying the thing ran colder than his new clippers. I figured it was a one-off fluke but he's been doing it for six months now and swears by it. I'm still on the spray myself, but I keep thinking about grabbing that little bottle next time I'm at the hardware store.
