That 40k view TikTok about a 99 cent tool had me doubting my own eyes

Last Tuesday I watched a TikTok of a guy using a $12 harbor freight scraper to peel old paint off a porch like it was butter. The video had 40k views and comments were going nuts saying it was the best hack ever. I do concrete work, so I know a bit about surface prep, and that scraper was clearly a floor scraper with a polished edge, not the stock blade. I tried the same thing with a new one in my garage that night, and it just chewed the wood up. The guy clearly spent an hour on it with a grinder before filming, but none of the comments mentioned that. Makes me wonder how many other viral DIY clips are hiding the real prep work, anyone else catch stuff like this in their field?

honestly i watched that same one and thought the same thing, but 40k views isnt exactly blowing up either. maybe it was just a slow tuesday for the algorithm and people needed something to argue about.
