A shop regular's one line fix for my brake bleed habit
I used to do the whole mineral oil bleed with the funnel level and all that, until this older guy named Pete who races out of Portland told me I was overthinking it. He said to just push the bubbles up from the caliper with a syringe, not the lever, and I've been doing it his way for about 6 weeks now. It cut my bleed time from 25 minutes to under 10 on most Shimano setups, but I still mess up the rear brake on my own bike every single time. Has anyone else had a customer's casual tip totally override what your shop taught you?
What's different about the rear on your own bike, is it a longer hose run or internal routing? Pete's trick works great when fluid actually moves, but if you're pushing from the caliper on a rear with a high loop or a sticky piston, the bubbles just park somewhere and laugh at you. Does it bleed fine when you go back to the funnel on that one, or is it trash either way?
