Hit 500 bottom brackets replaced and only stabbed myself twice
I finally crossed 500 BB replacements at the shop here in Portland, which felt like a dumb milestone until I added up the math. That's around 60 pounds of old grease, 15 broken snap rings, and 2 trips to urgent care for a screwdriver in the palm. The second stab happened last Tuesday on a Trek that had been sitting in rain for 3 years, seized so bad I needed a breaker bar and a prayer. Anyone else keep a running tally of jobs that fought back harder than they should have?
That Trek that sat in rain for 3 years, how many hours did you sink into it before it finally gave up? I keep a list of bikes that turned into all day jobs, but I'm curious if you count the prep time too, like the soaking and the praying. My worst was a beach cruiser with rusted bolts that snapped off flush, took me four hours just to get the crank arm off. Do you track the total time or just the body damage?
