My repair log hit 5,000 bikes last month and I almost missed it
So I was updating my repair log after a tune up, just a basic flat fix and brake adjust on a kids bike, and the counter said 5,000. I started logging every bike back in 2011 when I opened my shop in Fort Collins, mostly because I kept forgetting which customers had already paid and it was getting messy. The log is just a cheap notebook I write in, nothing fancy, date, name, what I did, and a dollar amount. 5,000 bikes in 13 years works out to about 7 or 8 a week on average, which doesn't sound like much until you think about every stuck seatpost and rounded off crank bolt in that pile. The one that stuck with me was a 1986 Schwinn that came in with the original tires still on it and a rear hub I had to soak in oil for 3 days just to get the cone loose. The weird part is I hit the number during a normal Tuesday, no fanfare, and I only noticed because I was flipping back to check if a guy named Dave had paid me for a wheel true in April. Curious if any of you keep a running count, and if so what number did you land on when you finally looked?
