Rear derailleur hanger gauge vs. eyeballing it: I'm done guessing
I used to line up a hanger by sight until a wheel builder in Tucson handed me his Park Tool DAG-2.2 and showed me how far off it really was. I've now watched three guys bend a hanger back with a crescent wrench and call it straight, only to chase ghost shifting into a brand new cassette. My take is the gauge pays for itself in one bad tune-up, but I know folks who swear a straight edge and a good eye has worked fine for 20 years. Where do you all land on this one?
