Rear derailleur hanger took me 2 hours to figure out was bent, not the cable
Last Tuesday a guy brought in a Trek FX with shifting that skipped under load on the 3rd and 4th cogs. I spent 45 minutes on cable tension, swapped the cable and housing, then reset the limit screws twice, and it still ghost shifted. Finally I pulled the hanger and checked it against my alignment gauge, off by maybe 3mm at the bottom, which was just enough to throw the whole cassette off under torque. Straightening it took 4 minutes, so almost two hours for a 4 minute fix. Anyone else get fooled by a hanger that looks fine to the eye but is bent just enough to make you chase the cable instead?
