Edge of Tomorrow vs Live Die Repeat: did the marketing kill a great binge?
I watched Edge of Tomorrow on a plane back in April and finished it in one sitting, which almost never happens for me. Then I looked up why nobody talks about it and found out the studio changed the title to Live Die Repeat for the home release. Honestly that move buried a movie that should be in every sci-fi binge list next to Groundhog Day. My brother in Cleveland says the original title was fine and the marketing was the real problem. Which side are you on, bad title or bad ads?
The title switch from Edge of Tomorrow to Live Die Repeat makes zero sense because they just slapped the tagline on there like a bad sequel name. You don't rename a movie after it flops, that's like putting a band-aid on a broken leg. The real problem was the ads barely showed the time loop thing, which is the whole reason the movie is fun. I had no idea it was basically Groundhog Day with Tom Cruise and aliens until someone told me months later. Bad ads AND bad title, the studio really went two for two on messing this one up.
