Unpopular opinion: Binge culture has made show discussions with family feel like a race

I've observed that during family gatherings, instead of sharing diverse viewing experiences, everyone rushes to finish the same series to participate in conversations. This creates pressure where slower watchers, like my aunt, feel left out if they haven't caught up by the next visit. For example, at our last dinner, talk about a popular drama stalled because half the table hadn't seen past episode three, leading to awkward silences. It's shifting our interactions from organic exchanges to scheduled debriefs.

Forces us into these weird performance reviews of media consumption instead of actual connection. What are we even racing for, spoiler supremacy?

We're quantifying human experience instead of living it...

Caught myself arguing with my podcast app over 'minutes listened' last week. Forgot the episode content entirely. My own personal analytics dashboard is judging me. Probably gave myself a poor quarterly review for attention span.
