Forget that bare hands are always safer. Some jobs like heavy hammering need gloves so you don't drop hot steel on your foot. It's about using the right tool for the specific task.

Ever grab a hot piece with gloves and not feel the heat in time? I did that and my glove started melting to the steel, like a dumb cartoon character. That smoldering fabric gives you a false sense of security until you're already burned. You lose all the warning from your skin, so a small mistake turns into a big injury. Now I work barehanded for most things, and I get less hurt because I can feel the heat coming. It just makes you more careful and quick.

Ouch, @luna819, that sounds painfully familiar. I once grabbed a hot pan handle with an oven mitt, and the fabric just stuck and smoldered. You're so right about losing that skin warning, it turns a quick touch into a real burn. Feeling the heat directly does make you move faster and pay more attention.
