Changed my mind: Board game meetups were better when they were just friends
I always thought organized board game clubs were the best way to find players. Back in the day, we just called up a few buddies, cracked open a game, and played until late. There was no schedule or strict rules, just fun. But last month, I went to a formal club event, and it felt more like a job with all the sign-ups and timers. We spent so much time on pairings and rotations that the games felt rushed. That experience showed me that the casual, messy nights with friends were what made board gaming great. Now I see that the heart of it is in the simple hangouts, not the structured events. I'm sticking to my living room from now on.
