Drove 45 minutes to a game night in Tacoma and the host had 300 games but zero interest in playing any
Last Friday I packed Catan and Ticket to Ride into the car and drove up to a guy's house in Tacoma I met through a local group. We spent the first hour and a half just walking around his basement while he explained the rules of games we never touched, and every time I reached for a box he'd say "oh that one needs the right group." By 9pm we had played exactly one round of something called Love Letter and he spent most of it on his phone. I get being proud of a collection, but a game night where nobody plays games is just a museum tour with snacks. Am I wrong for thinking the host should actually want to play, or is this just how some groups operate?
Man, 45 minutes each way for one round of Love Letter is rough. But honestly some people just like owning games more than playing them, like how my uncle has a garage full of tools he never touches. You showed up ready to play and that counts for something, next time just ask ahead of time if the host actually plans to run games or if it's more of a hangout. Not every game night is a real game night, and now you know which kind this guy runs.
