A welder in Baton Rouge bet me $50 I couldn't name a tube roller, and I still owe him lunch
About 8 months ago I was on a turnaround near Baton Rouge and this old hand named Ray kept giving me grief about being the young guy on the crew. One afternoon he pulled a $50 bill out of his wallet and bet me I couldn't name the three most common tube rolling tools without looking at the box. I froze up and said the first thing that popped in my head, which was just "the pointy one," and the whole crew lost it laughing for a solid 5 minutes. Ray bought everyone po-boys with my money and made me do the tube sheet prep by myself the rest of the shift. I've since learned the names (expander, roller, and flarer, for anyone keeping score) mostly out of spite. The man still texts me pictures of rollers to this day, asking if I've learned my lesson. Anyone here ever get humbled on a job by an old hand like that over something dumb?
