Bought a $400 magnetic drill press for a big job and it was a total game changer
Had to put in a bunch of tube sheets last month and the old mag drill finally gave out. Boss said just rent one, but I dropped my own cash on a new Milwaukee. It cut my hole time in half, no joke. The magnet held solid on the curved surface where the old one would slip. For anyone doing a lot of field work, is it worth buying your own or do you stick with shop tools? I'm sold on having my own now.

My local hardware store has a whole aisle for that exact upgrade cycle.

Actually, I think the_adam has it right. In a boiler or heat exchanger, the part the tubes go through is usually called a tube sheet. Calling it a plate isn't totally wrong, but sheet is the more common technical term. It's one of those things where the wrong word still gets the point across in a hardware store. The aisle probably just has metal stock and hole saws anyway.
