I was rolling a 2 inch tube bundle on a feedwater heater job last month and doing it the way I always have, one pass from the bottom up. This guy named Walt, 71 years old, watched me for a bit and said I was chasing distortion around the sheet. I didn't want to hear it but he asked me to try two passes in opposite directions starting at the center, and when I checked the fit-up with a feeler gauge the gaps closed up way easier. I ran the rest of the bundle his way and only had to re-roll 3 tubes out of 60 instead of the usual 8 or 10. Any of you run into that, or do you just stick with whatever the job spec says?
