Spent 6 hours fixing a spine crack that turned out to be a 10 minute glue fix
Last Tuesday I was rebinding a 1930s cookbook for a lady in Boise, and I noticed a small crack at the top of the spine. I panicked and pulled the whole cover off, thinking the boards were warped. I tried three different adhesive mixes and even remade the spine lining twice, which ate up my whole afternoon. My mentor stopped by and said, 'Just run a bead of PVA down that crack and clamp it.' Took him 10 minutes to fix it, and I felt like an idiot. Has anyone else gone way overboard on a repair that ended up being simple?
