Planted garlic in my Denver yard in October and got greens all winter instead of bulbs
Tossed 40 cloves in a raised bed last fall expecting a July harvest, but the mild weeks kept them sprouting and I ended up cutting scapes for pesto from December through March. Guess I should have waited until the ground actually froze, so now I'm curious what zone tricks everyone up north uses for bulbs.
Man, I did the exact same thing two winters ago here in zone 5b! Planted way too early and got a whole bed of garlic grass while my neighbor's bulbs came in fat and happy. Now I wait until the ground is good and frozen, like late November, and just mulch the heck out of it.
