My uncle told me to mix mortar with a shovel for a whole day and my arms still hurt
He swore it builds the right feel for the mix, so I spent 8 hours on a patio job in Toledo last week doing just that. Turns out he was messing with me, and the crew's mixer was free the whole time. Anyone else get tricked with some 'old school' advice that was just a joke?

Oh man, totally! My uncle once tried to fix the toaster with duct tape and a paperclip... it started smoking. We had to buy a whole new one.
