Switched from a string line to a laser level for long walls and I'm not going back
For 12 years I set every long wall with a string line and a couple of nails, and I could hold a 40 foot run within an eighth pretty easy. Last spring on a garage in Dayton I finally broke down and grabbed a rotary laser after watching a guy on the crew shoot a footing in two minutes flat. First wall I did with it I pulled a corner out of plumb because I trusted the beam and never checked the formwork, cost me half a day. Now I shoot the laser, then still eyeball the line with a level at both ends before I lay the first course. Anyone else run both, or do you just trust the beam and go?
