Why does nobody talk about wetting your brick before laying in 100 degree heat
Last July on a job in Tempe my mortar kept sucking the water out of the brick so fast the joints were crumbling before I could tool them, and a guy on the crew told me to dunk the whole stack in a barrel first. Took an extra 20 minutes per pallet but the bond was night and day better. Anyone else doing this or am I just late to the party?
That Tempe heat is brutal, I remember watching a guy soak his bricks in a kiddie pool he brought to the site, whole crew thought he was nuts till they saw his joints. Twenty extra minutes sounds about right, the brick just drinks it up instead of stealing it from your mortar.
