Hit $1.37 per serving on 3 bean chili, cant believe it
Started keeping a real food budget last month and tracking every single meal to see where my money was going. Made a big pot of 3 bean chili with canned tomatoes, onions, and spices from my pantry, fed me for 5 lunches. When I added up the receipt it came to exactly $1.37 per serving and I had to double check the math. Compared to the $9 sandwich I used to grab near my office in Denver, thats over $38 a week saved just on lunches. Anyone else track their actual per meal cost and get surprised by what something simple costs?

Did you notice that the more we track stuff like this, the more we realize the things we think are cheap are actually expensive and vice versa? Once I started doing this for groceries, I found my "budget" meals were costing me way more than I thought because I was wasting half the ingredients, while simple stuff like this chili was carrying me through the week. Honestly, it's wild how the boring meals end up being the real money savers, and that $9 sandwich looks even dumber now.
