My oat soup became playdough by accident

I was making a cheap oat-based soup to save money. I added too much oatmeal, and now it's as thick as playdough. What's the funniest fail you've had with budget cooking?

My friend Lisa tried to make oatmeal porridge last winter and used way too much oats. It turned into a thick paste, but she just added more milk and stirred it over low heat. It actually turned out fine, so your playdough soup might not be a total loss. A lot of these budget cooking horror stories make things sound worse than they are. You can usually fix a too-thick soup by blending in some extra liquid slowly.

Your oat soup story is CLASSIC. I remember reading about someone who added too much rice to a stew and it turned into a solid block. They literally had to CHISEL it out of the pot. Another time, a friend tried to make pancake batter with water instead of milk, and it came out like rubber. Budget cooking fails can be hilariously disastrous.

Those kitchen disasters are LEGENDARY. My cousin attempted to make gravy with cornstarch and water, but she used too much and created a glue-like substance that stuck to EVERYTHING. We had to throw out the pot because it was permanently sealed shut. It's amazing how simple mistakes can turn dinner into a hardware project.
