My $18 hostel in Lisbon had no lockers so I slept with my passport in my shoe
Booked a cheap hostel in Lisbon last spring and the listing said "secure storage" so I figured I was fine. Got there and the lockers were just open cubbies with no locks at all, and the front desk wanted 5 euros a day to rent one. I ended up stuffing my passport and cards in my shoe inside my sleeping bag and barely slept for three nights. Everything made it home safe but I felt like an idiot for trusting the listing photos. What do you all check before booking a place, and is there a way to spot fake amenity claims before you pay?
