Shoutout to the free walking tour guides in Lisbon
I was in Lisbon last month and decided to try one of those 'free' walking tours you see advertised. I was a bit worried it would be a waste of time or just a long sales pitch. Our guide, Maria, took us through the Alfama district for almost three hours, pointing out hidden courtyards and local bakeries we would have missed. At the end, she explained the model is tip-based, and you pay what you think it was worth. I gave her 15 euros, which felt fair for the time and info, but I saw some people just walk away. It got me thinking, what's the real budget-friendly etiquette here? For a solo traveler, it was way cheaper than a formal tour. Has anyone else had a really good or really bad experience with these tip-based tours in other cities?
