My bus from Chiang Mai to Pai broke down at 11pm and I learned the hard way that $4 travel insurance is not a scam
Two weeks ago I took the cheap overnight bus from Chiang Mai to Pai for 150 baht because the flights were triple that price. Around 11pm the engine started smoking and we sat on the shoulder of a mountain road for almost 3 hours with no AC and no bathroom. I had skipped the $4 insurance add on when I booked online to save money, so when I had to pay 800 baht for a songthaew to finish the trip I was out way more than the insurance would have cost. My hostel roommate in Pai mentioned she got a full refund plus a hotel night from the same company after her van broke down, all because she checked that little box. Does anyone have a cheap travel insurance company they actually trust for bus and train trips in Southeast Asia?

Funny how the cheap option always ends up costing more, same as with everything else.
