Spent $45 on a fountain pen and my whole system fell apart

Picked up a fancy pen after seeing everyone rave about them, figured it would make journaling smoother. Wrote two pages and the ink smeared all over my weekly spread, ruined the whole layout. Switched back to my $2 rollerball and everything works again, no bleed, no fuss. Anyone else burned by upgrading gear that was never the problem in the first place?

Remember, most fountain pen inks just need a minute to dry, and that smearing is usually on the user, not the pen. You might have gotten unlucky with the paper too, but your rollerball was never the real problem, just the tool that fit your habits better.

Drying time is only half the story though. Lefties like me smudge everything no matter how long we wait. And some inks just never dry on coated paper, period. Rollerballs work because they dont care about any of that nonsense. Calling it a habit thing ignores that some of us just want to write without babysitting the ink. The pen aint the problem, but the paper and ink combo can absolutely be the problem.
