Why does nobody talk about how a dull saw just wrecks your whole day
Last Tuesday I had 40 pounds of beef ribs to break down for a Friday catering order and my band saw blade was so shot it was basically polishing the bone instead of cutting. I pushed through anyway because I didn't want to lose time, and the blade wandered on me and shaved a chunk off a rack that I had to trim down to almost nothing. Cost me about $60 in product and two hours of re-cutting, plus I had to call the customer and drop their order by 15 pounds. Now I swap blades the second I feel even a little drag, even mid-shift. How often are you all changing blades, and do you track it by hours or just by feel?
Is it really the blade though, or is your tension just off? I've had bands that felt dull but the real problem was the tracking was drifting the whole time.
