Buried a drop line under a driveway last week that took 6 hours
Should have been a 2 hour job at most. Turns out the previous installer ran the line through a PVC pipe that was crushed in two spots. Had to dig up 40 feet of conduit to find both breaks. Anyone dealt with old crushed conduit like this or do you just run a new line every time?

I read somewhere that old PVC conduit gets brittle after like 15-20 years underground, especially if it wasn't buried with sand or bedding underneath. That crushed pipe sounds like someone backfilled with sharp rocks or just dumped dirt on it without caring. For a driveway like that, I'd honestly just run a new line in schedule 80 PVC or HDPE next time and skip the headache of digging up old conduit.

Why not just run conduit in a trench full of concrete next time and be done with it? Schedule 80 is cheap insurance for a driveway.
