Shoutout to the wireless tester I thought was pointless

I used to think wireless testers were just extra gear for no reason. Then I got called to fix a signal issue in a house where the owner had run cables through his wall of vintage radios. After untangling that mess for an hour, the tester pinpointed the problem in two seconds. Now I carry one every day, and it keeps me from looking like a fool.

My buddy had a similar wake up call last year. He was helping his cousin set up a home office in this old apartment, and the wifi kept dropping. Turns out the previous tenant had plastered over a bunch of old, buzzing fluorescent light ballasts in the wall. His little signal sniffer started screaming near the outlet, and they found the interference source behind drywall. He said it saved them from hours of blindly checking cables.

Isn't it crazy how the weirdest stuff messes with signals? I was at a job where the wifi kept dying in one bedroom, and I was ready to re-run the whole cable. My tester led me right to this old baby monitor stuffed in the closet ceiling that the owners forgot about. It was still plugged in and buzzing away on some random frequency. Felt like a genius finding it, totally saved a huge headache lol. That little tool pays for itself just by stopping the wild goose chases.

No way, that's wild. So the tester actually pointed you right at the wall? What kind was it, just a basic RF detector? Always wondered if those cheap ones are any good for finding hidden junk like that.
