Spent 6 hours on a bad ground in a Tampa attic last Tuesday
Customer kept losing internet every time her AC kicked on, so I figured it was just a loose fitting somewhere easy. Two hours in, I had replaced the splitter and both ends of the drop, and it was still dropping signal every single time the compressor started. Turned out the ground block had corroded so bad under the tape that it was basically painted plastic, and a half inch of green junk was the whole problem. I keep a spare ground block on the truck now, but does anyone check those first instead of last like I did?
Man, six hours in a Tampa attic in June is basically a sentence, not a job. Funny how it's always the cheapest dumbest part that wrecks your whole day, a two dollar ground block with a little green crust on it. I had one last month where the fitting looked brand new on the outside and the center pin had rotted to dust inside, so yeah, learned that one the hard way too. These days if the signal drops when a motor kicks on, that ground is the first thing I put hands on, not the last. Half inch of green junk beats a thermal camera every single time, and it costs you nothing to look.
