inI thought a whole house fan was just a cheap AC substitute until my neighbor in Phoenix ran his for a month and his power bill dropped $180.
Wait, did he run it all night or just during the day?

inOverheard a guy at the shop say 'a good operator never touches the feed override' and I think that's just wrong
Exactly, it's like Terry said, the machine talks and you have to listen. I've overridden my way out of more jams than I can count, and my pride is still intact. If following some old rule means scrapping a part, then that rule is just wrong. My old boss used to say the only real rule is to get the part in the box.

inHeard a neighbor in Mill Woods say they'd never use a reciprocating saw for demo again
Oh man, that reminds me of my deck project! I was all set to rent a big floor sander, but a neighbor lent me a random orbital sander instead. It was way easier to control and did the job in half the time. Totally changed my mind on the "right" tool.

inI finally understood the difference between a cheap grinder and a real one
Honestly, "just fine for waking up" is the real truth for most of us. Tbh, my mood in the morning is the biggest factor, way more than any gear. I used a blade grinder for years and it did the job. Ngl, sometimes I miss not overthinking it.

inCan we talk about the 'artisan' label at craft fairs
Ugh, YES. It's the "handmade" bread problem all over again. That word used to mean a real person kneaded it for ages. Now a factory machine with a wooden paddle gets called "artisan". Same with those basic leather bracelets. If you're just stamping a premade strip and adding a clasp, you're not a craftsman, you're doing a craft project. The word loses all meaning.
