Walked into a new build in Mesa last week and the whole place was already wired for fiber, coax just dangling
So I got sent out to this new subdivision in Mesa last Tuesday for a simple internet hookup, and the second I walked in I could tell something was off. The builder ran fiber drops to every single room, even the laundry room and the garage, but left the coax just hanging loose out of the walls with no plates on them. I stood there in the kitchen counting 7 fiber jacks and 4 bare coax stubs, and the homeowner looked at me like I was the one who messed up. I asked her if she ordered a fiber plan and she said no, she just wanted basic cable and internet like her old house. So now I'm crawling through a hot attic in July trying to figure out where these coax runs even terminate because the panel in the closet only has fiber. Took me almost two hours just to trace the lines and get her a working signal, and half the coax wasn't even stapled down, just flopping around loose. I get that builders are trying to future proof stuff but why run fiber everywhere and then cheap out on the one thing people actually use right now? Has anyone else been running into these new builds where the wiring makes zero sense for what the customer actually ordered?
Did the homeowner even know she had fiber drops in every room or was that just a surprise to her too? That sounds like a total mess to deal with in a hot attic, feel for you man.
