Warning: That cheap coax stripper from the truck stop cost me a whole morning

I grabbed one of those five dollar strippers at a gas station outside of Omaha because I forgot my good one. It looked fine, but the blade was junk and it kept nicking the center conductor. Had to re-run a whole 75 foot drop for a customer because the signal was all over the place after my splice. Wasted about three hours of my day fixing my own mess. What's a good backup stripper you guys keep in the truck that won't let you down?

Oh man, that's the worst kind of morning. I had a similar thing happen with a cheap pair of wire cutters once, the kind you get in a plastic clamshell. They just folded over a piece of 12-gauge wire instead of cutting it, and the handle pinched my palm. Learned my lesson about bargain bin tools that day.

Yeah, those clamshell cutters are junk. But 12-gauge wire is pretty thick for any side cutter, you usually want a lineman's pliers for that.

You mentioned re-running a 75 foot drop, did you have enough spare cable on the truck?
