Got shouted down at the Boise fan meetup for liking a creator who got canned 3 days before, and I'm second guessing how I judge these situations

So I was at this little creator fan meetup in Boise last Saturday, maybe 40 people in a rented room above a pizza place. A girl I follow, about 200k subs, got cancelled 3 days before over a joke she made in 2019. I said out loud that I thought it was unfair since she already apologized twice and the joke was clearly sarcasm. Two people turned on me fast, one guy said quote "you're part of the problem" and walked off. I spent the rest of the night standing by the snack table alone. Now I don't know if I should even bring up cancelled creators at these things anymore. What I'm trying to figure out is, how do you all decide when a cancellation is fair? Do you look at the apology, the timing, the receipts, or just go with the room? I want a real answer, not vibes.
