Had to choose between backing a canceled creator's comeback or skipping it. Picked the wrong one.
Last month I had two Patreon requests from creators who got canceled a couple years back. One was a gaming commentator who got caught making racist jokes in old DMs. The other was a lifestyle vlogger who faked a charity drive. I picked the gaming guy because his apology video seemed more real. Donated $15. Two weeks later he posted a rant about 'cancel culture' and doubled down on the jokes. Should have gone with the vlogger. She actually did a full charity audit and refunded people. Anyone else pick a comeback to support and regret it?

Tough break man. The gaming commentator bit sounds like a classic case of someone pretending to learn just to get their audience back. The vlogger at least showed she did the work by refunding people. That rant about cancel culture would have been my last straw too. Reminds me of a musician I backed who did the same thing after promising to grow. You just never know who's actually changed.

Is "I've changed" basically the new "the check is in the mail"? Because that vlogger at least put her money where her mouth was with those refunds, but the gaming guy just threw a pity party about "cancel culture" and expected everyone to clap. At this point, I'm starting to wonder if people think a 10 minute apology video is some kind of magic reset button for their entire reputation.
