Dropped $2,400 on a coding bootcamp in Austin and all I got was a certificate and a Discord invite
Six months ago I signed up for one of those 12 week coding bootcamps that kept popping up in my feed. The sales guy promised job placement help, a mentor, and a portfolio that would get me hired. I put down $2,400 on a payment plan and went to class four nights a week after my shifts. The mentor turned out to be a guy who graduated the same program eight months earlier and the job help was a spreadsheet of companies with dead links. Our Discord server has 300 people in it and the last message was someone asking if anyone ever got a job from it. I finished in March and I have sent out 60 applications since then. Two replies came back, both auto rejections. If you are thinking about a bootcamp, ask to talk to three real grads who are working in the field now before you give them a dime. Anyone else get burned like this and did anything actually help you land something?
