Showerthought: I used a 6-inch drywall knife to smooth seam adhesive on a tricky transition in a Boise basement and it worked way better than my usual trowel.

I mean, the trowel kept catching on the pad, but the knife's flex let me feather it out perfectly, so is this a legit hack or am I just asking for trouble down the line?

Drywall knives are great for feathering out small patches... that flex lets you blend into the old surface without leaving ridges. Just make sure you're using the right mud for the job, like a setting-type compound for deeper fills. It's a solid trick for transitions where a stiff trowel would fight you.

That flex thing is so true... reminds me of trying to frost a cake with a butter knife once. Same idea, way worse results.
