Why does nobody talk about the chalk line trick that old installer in Tulsa showed me
Back when I was still doing tract homes in Tulsa, an installer named Ray who had been laying carpet for 31 years watched me snap lines for a stretch-in and said, "Kid, your chalk line is your best friend, not your tape measure." I ignored him for two weeks because I figured a tape was more exact. Then I got called back on a job in Broken Arrow where the seams kept puckering, and I tried his way, snapping a line down the center and working out from it, and the whole room laid flat in one pass. Cost me a day of redoing that first room to learn it. Any of you guys still snap center lines on big rooms or do you just eyeball it off the tack strip?
