Moving truck quote came in $800 over my estimate, ugh

I was comparing full service movers for a Lincoln Park to Evanston move next month and got a quote that was $800 more than the estimator told me over the phone. Turns out they charge per stair flight over 3 steps and my building has 2 walk-up flights. Has anyone else gotten surprise stair fees here, or is that just standard for Chicago old buildings?

Oh man, that stair fee thing got my friend too. She moved from a third floor walkup in Wicker Park to a first floor in Logan Square last year and the movers hit her with an extra $250 after they arrived because the building had one more flight than the "standard" they assumed. She was stuck because they had already loaded half the truck, total hostage situation. Definitely ask for the written breakdown before you sign anything, that phone quote means nothing. Did they give you a final number in writing yet?
